Structural Steel Assemblies

The installation of structural steelwork consists of the assembly of steel components into a frame. The processes involve lifting and placing components into position, then connecting them together. Typically this is done through bolting but sometimes on-site welding is used. The assembled frame needs to be aligned before bolting up is completed, and the structure delivered to the client.

Often the ability to complete these processes safely, quickly and economically is influenced significantly by the design. It is important that designers clearly understand the impact that their decisions can have; "buildability" is a valid design objective.

Excellent co-ordination facilitates a smooth running assembly. Adequate access is also essential, since steel transportation, unloading and installing, all required a high-level of expertise and experience.
